Don't Worry
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:31-34
Some things never change. Should we pay our taxes? Jesus can just as easily say today, pay to Albanese what is Albanese’s (you get it). But other sayings take a bit more work to think through.
Today, very few of Jesus’ followers as Village Church worry about whether they will have clothes to wear or food to eat. Oh I know, the ‘what will we have for dinner’ is a frequent frustration for many. But you aren’t wondering where that food is going to come from.
No, we don’t worry so much about the bare necessities. We ask a different question. How can I have enough money to do everything I want in life? Is that you? If you really ask yourself, how do I relate to money, is that the deep question that fuels your relationship with money?
And this is where Jesus’ words are timeless. Seek first… what? His Kingdom and His righteousness. Jesus calls us to fundamentally change the question we are asking of money. No longer, how can I have enough money to do everything I want in life.
Instead, how can I seek first His Kingdom, knowing that I will receive everything I could ever desire in the new creation.

Pray:
- Praise the Father for His glorious Kingdom.
- Give thanks for Jesus, our King who won for us the Kingdom.
- Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others to help us seek first His Kingdom and not our own.
