Advent - Day 27

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:1-5

Don’t fret. It’s the same passage on purpose. One of the dangers of the modern Scripture reader is that we skim. We know we should read our Bible. Some of us have built good daily habits. But then, we just kind of read… as if we were reading a holiday fiction novel.

The Scriptures are God’s Words to us. Just consider that again for a moment. The God of the universe, speaking directly to you. Is that a phone call you would listen to carefully? Or would you clean up around the house - only half listening?

Let’s dig deep and soak in these words.

Yesterday, we were reminded that our souls need ‘waking up’. Just like the Psalmist is doing to his own soul, we need to be stirred up and reminded of what makes God so worthy of praise.

When I was first introduced to watching soccer, I used to watch a DVD with the top 200 goals in Premier League history. It was all action. It was awesome. It got me stirred up.

So it is with God. We need to remember God’s greatest hits. We need to remember what He has done for us. So today, read these verses again and reflect, what has God done for you in Jesus Christ?

For Today:
  • What is the greatest thing anyone has ever done for you?
  • Reflect on God’s kindness to you in Jesus.
  • Remind someone else of what God has done for them (text/coffee).

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is worthy of all praise for who He is and all His mighty deeds.
  • Give thanks for Christ who achieves the purposes of God and shows His glory.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others give Him the wholehearted praise He deserves.
