Advent - Day 31
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
Praise the Lord, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
Praise the Lord, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
Psalm 103:19-22
Do you ever feel like you are going around in circles? Maybe you feel like this Psalm is going in a circle? Sounds a bit like the beginning if you remember. In Hebrew poetry this is called an inclusio. It’s a deliberate way of highlighting a theme. In this case, that God is worthy of all praise.
If you remember where we began, it was with the Psalmist stirring up his soul, reminding himself that God is worthy of praise. After that he went through God’s greatest hits, His actions in history that prove Him worthy of all praise.
The Psalmist drew out how incredible God really is. That He would show love and mercy to people who are like grass, green today but gone tomorrow. That He would forgive the sins of such as us, is beyond anything we should expect.
God has shown that He and His Kingdom are awesome. Wonderful. And so the Psalmist returns to his theme. God is worthy of all praise and obedience. Angels, do you see it? Heavenly hosts, do you give Him His due? My soul, praise Him like you should.
For Today:
Pray:
and his kingdom rules over all.
Praise the Lord, you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word.
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
you his servants who do his will.
Praise the Lord, all his works
everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.

For Today:
- Do you see that God is worthy of all praise?
- What forms can praise take?
- What does it look like for you to praise God today?
Pray:
- Praise the Father, the Son and the Spirit of God today.
- For who He is and what He has done for you and humanity.
- Pray that He would stir up your soul to praise and obedience.
