Grand Entrance

28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
Matthew 16:28
Have you ever been to a red carpet event? Or maybe you jumped on the crowd for the arrival of your favorite band or sports team or even when the King visited Australia? People love a glorious entrance. It’s why we do weddings the way we do - all attention on the bride.
What will Jesus coming into His Kingdom look like? He says, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. What’s he talking about?
His resurrection? Sure. What if it’s also the cross? What if the glorious beginning of the Son of Man coming into His Kingdom isn’t a red carpet or an open bus parade but being crucified on a cross.
This is what Paul says in Colossians 2:15, “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
It’s a reminder of the wonderful glory of Jesus Kingdom. A glory found in atypical victory. The glory of a suffering servant who dies so that others can walk on His red carpet into glory with Him.
It’s a great reminder that there isn’t just glory after suffering but glory in suffering. And when we suffer for Jesus we glorify Him.
