Q.10. How did God create man?

A. God created man male and female, after his own image, in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, with dominion over the creatures.

Westminster Shorter Catechism

Well, nothing controversial here! But worth noting, for thousands of years, God’s people have celebrated His creative work and the order established therein. Honouring God’s intention for differences, between God & human, between male & female and between human & animal.

These differences are integral to the thriving of our world in good order, according to God’s design. Sadly, sin has twisted God’s blueprint. Twisted it. So that it doesn’t work like it should. History is very much the story of the consequences of these abuses. But the abuse by sinners does not mean we should reject the design that was first declared - very good.

In fact, what it should lead us to is a desire to restore and celebrate God’s good way of things. Male & female, loving one another and complimenting each other in their differences, even as we hold equality of value. Recognising our humanness and the need for God’s wisdom, power & direction. Honouring the role given to us as stewards of God’s natural world.

God’s design is good. Let’s work to live it out in a sinful world.

Questions:
  • How are you going with the claims of the world in these areas?
  • Do you trust in God’s good design?
  • What is one way you are finding it hard or good to live it out?

Pray:
  • Praise God for His good creation and good order.
  • Ask forgiveness for the ravages of sin in us and in our world and the desire to depart from God’s good order.
  • Ask God to help you and others delight in His good design and to live it out faithfully.

Passages: Genesis 1:27, Colossians 3:10, Ephesians 4:24
