Q. 38. What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?
A. At the resurrection, believers being raised up in glory, shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgement, and made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God to all eternity.
Westminster Shorter Catechism
Do you like new things? Most of us do. Kids love a new toy. A new car. A new house. A new friend. A new experience… the list could go on. We love new things. Hopefully I haven’t caused you to click over to a shopping app.
But what about a new body? What about a new world? This is the incredibly exciting proposition of the resurrection. Let’s go through it - blow by blow.
It begins with an incredible feeling. The feeling of being acquitted. Imagine you were arrested. A camera had picked up all the times you had looked at your phone while driving. You were going to prison. But at the last moment. ‘Someone’ came along and offered to take the punishment for you.
Imagine that feeling. That’s where we begin. But it isn’t where we end.
As you exit the courtroom. Something has happened. The world you left is not the world you have come back to. Like the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. You are now in a new land. Where the snakes don’t bite. Neither do the sharks. Where there is no smog over the city. Where floods don’t ravage and storms don’t blow.
And the people have changed. They aren’t walking past you, disinterested and uncaring. They want to welcome you. Wonderful to meet you. What’s your story - they say. Come and meet Jesus! The guy who took your punishment. He can’t wait to say hello.
The sounds are different. The city is filled with singing and dancing. People are just… joyful. It’s like a carnival. But you don’t have to pay. The billboards aren’t trying to sell you anything. Wait until you see the room Jesus has prepared for you.
And you have changed. Your body has changed. That old grief - it’s gone. That back pain - nothing. You don’t seem to care how you look anymore or what you're wearing. It just feels like there’s no need here.
Do you feel it? Are you looking forward to your resurrection?

Thanks Tim.
nIm looking forward to being at the end, being at the final place to rest.
nFree from my own thoughts, my discontentment , my confusion, free from trying, free from not being enough....free from feeling invisible.
